Grey Gold: "A New Myth of Persephone & Hades"
Myrrh Larsen’s second production in a series of immersive multimedia rock and performance shows invoking archetypical stories with an emotional twist, Grey Gold: A New Myth of Persephone and Hades uses the framework of this classic Greek myth in which the god of the underworld falls in love with the young goddess of life and nature to explore themes of self-actualization, control, and the difference between love and ownership through music, movement, and audience immersion.

Grey Gold incorporates two movement actors playing Hades and Persephone, a live rock band, and music composed and arranged by Myrrh Larsen. The story is presented in 7 theatrical scenes, taking place over a 10-song cycle, of which 8 are original songs.

Our ensemble and band reimagine the story of Persephone and Hades through a lens that is relevant to modern audiences without sacrificing the intent of the original story, exploring the ways in which both Hades and Persephone claim agency, and how two entities, each powerful in their own right, are forced to learn how to retain their own power and identity while accepting someone else into their respective worlds, both as metaphor and quite literally.

Offering audiences an immersive multimedia story framed by the more familiar trappings of a rock concert, Grey Gold: A New Myth of Persephone and Hades expands the definition of what can be experienced in a club setting. The fully immersive nature of this unique performance encourages audience members to interact with the story rather than just passively observing, affecting how we perceive the relationships in our own lives.
